Exciting “Weavings” at The Salisbury Centre – Golden Thread Tapestry Launch
6 Mar 23
One week ago, on Saturday 25th Jan, the Salisbury Centre hosted the launch of the Golden Thread tapestry exhibition that is in now hanging in the beautiful Studio and which speaks of themes of hope, refugee journeys and survival, transmuting conflict, and building bridges. You can find more information about the event background here . The day was vibrant and well attended with about 50 people and elders from the past and present community.
It was a joyous and inspiring afternoon filled with opportunities for reflection, connection and weaving which culminated with the sharing of a beautiful polyphonic song about Unity & Community by the monthly open Georgian Singing group (The group is open to everyone and meet every last saturday of the month. P.s. Many of the singers had never sung a Georgian Song before and were unaware that they would have shared this song in front of an audience till 5 minutes before it happened! – This song had just been learnt in the workshop that had been happening simultaneously in the Salisbury Centre building)
This was an impromptu arrangement but was a perfect illustration of how different threads can be woven together in community to add value to the whole and everyone, both in terms of how these two events came together, how many threads make a tapestry and how many unique voices can come together to create one powerful and beautiful harmony!
This event was part of the Salisbury Centre 6 months long Community Event Programme in honour of the Centre 50th Anniversary. The Programme was dreamt into place as a cauldron for the community to offer events with an energy of dedication toward the positive unfolding of the next 50 years of the centre, both honouring the past as well as giving energy to the values that we would like to see taking roots for the coming times :).
This programme will culminate in a week of celebration in June 2023 (18th – 25th) so save the date and keep checking the Salisbury Centre website for a more detailed programme 🙂
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The tapestry has now been moved down to the Art room, so that it is more easily seen during its residence at the Salisbury Centre, until May. If you want to visit please contact office@salisburycentre.org, or Cathie Wright carw46@yahoo.co.uk, to check if the space is free.
