The Golden Threads Reawakened at the Salisbury Centre
2 Salisbury Road, EH16 4RB
Talk and Refreshments Saturday 25 February 5 – 7pm
Cathie Wright and the weavers invite you to come and see the remarkable Community Tapestry, created in lockdown, and centred on a box of golden threads belonging to Hedwig Philip, my grandmother, a German Jew who narrowly escaped the Holocaust.
Her box of threads lay unopened for 70 years until Hedwig’s inspiring story was translated into a Tapestry by a group of tapestry artists, using powerful images which resonate with our world today. Themes of refugee journeys and survival, avoiding conflict, and building bridges are all imagined in this creative piece.
Woven during lockdown, it speaks of the value of creative arts and communal activity.
Tea coffee and tisanes and cakes will be offered.
Also let us know if you have any specific access requirements or if you require personal assistance in the event of an evacuation. We regret to inform you that it will be initially displayed in the Studio which is not wheelchair accessible.
