Community-led Events at the Salisbury Centre

Applications for community events  proposal for the Salisbury Centre -Autumn 2024 Community Programme are open.

Community-led events are a core component of the Salisbury Centre’s regular offerings, reflecting our diverse community. They include one-off events, workshops, recurring groups, and regular classes, for example yoga, qi gong, meditations, chanting, dance, movement, drama, and crafts.

Here below we share how Community-Events differ from privately hired rooms and autonomously run events

Attendance by Donation

Unlike private hire events in the Salisbury Centre’s spaces (for which the hirer might choose to charge participants a fee), community-led events are offered on a “by donation” basis.
This inclusive model ensures that community members from any background can take part in activities regardless of their ability to pay.  This model should be explicitly mentioned in any promotional material for the event.

Free use of the Space – Donations Split

Community facilitators do not pay a fee for hiring a room at the Salisbury Centre. Instead, after all donations have been collected for an event (which may include cash, Eventbrite sales, PayPal, or through our website donation page) the total amount will be shared, 60% to the Facilitator and 40% to the Salisbury Centre

Promotions and Social Media

All community-led events will be promoted through the Salisbury Centre comms channels, including:

  • Salisbury Centre Facebook page, Instagram and Website
  • Monthly newsletter (dates are flexible)
  • Seasonal programme brochures (if dates line up)
  • Co-host a Facebook Event page created by the facilitator
  • Our Instagram page (as collaborators of any related posts)

Eligibility Criteria

Community-led events are an integral part of the Salisbury Centre offering. Community facilitators are representing the centre and will be covered by the Centre’s public liability insurance.

As such, it is important that the Centre feels comfortable with the quality, safety, and integrity of both the facilitator and the type of event offered.

All potential community facilitators who would like to host community-led events should therefore fulfil the following criteria:

  • Be able, where relevant, to provide qualifications and/or affiliation to any relevant professional membership body (for example, yoga instructor qualifications)
  • Show an understanding of the ethos of the centre, ideally by having previously participated in some community activities, events, volunteering, or training.
  • Be in alignment with the Salisbury Centre mission, values and policies, without any known breaches or concerns about trust, reliability, or terms and conditions of access.
  • The event being offered meets our acceptable bookings criteria and terms and conditions, and is well- matched to the needs and interests of our community (including potential new participants).
  • Show willingness to co-operate and be flexible in adapting event logistics, such as the time or room booked, to accommodate other needs of the Centre.
  • Have a preliminary meeting with a member of the Salisbury Centre staff to discuss your idea, and go through relevant safety and induction procedures.

*** Note : The Salisbury Centre has a rich history and diverse community. The Centre therefore reserves the right to evaluate the suitability of each class/facilitator on a case-by-case basis
