Sempervivum

Sempervivum and Wellspring are two organizations which developed in parallel with the Salisbury Centre in the early 1970’s to explore elements of self-development, social awareness and community, while fostering psychological and spiritual growth.

Today we are sharing a litte bit about where Sempervivum is at today :)!

Sempervivum means “always alive”, expressing a wish to celebrate those impulses which regenerate and enliven us all. Our focus is on community building through creative collaboration and gentle self-enquiry, providing a safe, open environment in which to connect with the self and others in a real way.

The main stay of Sempervivum has been week-long residential events in different locations, as well as shorter 1 day events.

During our gatherings, a wide range of activities and workshops are on offer, generated by participants themselves and by members of the communities where our events are held.

In past years we have enjoyed: singing and song writing, art events in the woods, making fire sculptures along the river, spoken word and music performance, open-air poetry, 5 rhythms dance, stand-up comedy and cabaret, peace dances, yoga and circle dance, equinox bonfire celebrations, labyrinths in the landscape.
You may be inspired to try something new and discover the shoots of a hidden talent, or you may just want to relax in good company.
These events have always been welcoming to families, and children’s creative activities form part of the programme.

Sempervivum is one of the three organisations based in Edinburgh that were established and founded by Winifred Rushforth in the 1970’s, emerging out of the pioneering Family Therapy work she established at The Davidson Clinic. She was also the founder of The Salisbury Centre 50 years ago, and Wellspring, which has been offering a Psychotherapy and Counselling service in Edinburgh for the last 45 years.

We are inviting new people interested in joining us, to participate in our events, as we look forward to growing our community.
If there is sufficient interest we could offer a ‘Pop-Up’ Sempervivum event at The Salisbury Centre, for new people to get a sense of who we are and what we offer.
