Meet our community therapists:
My name is Beth and I am a fully qualified therapist in Holistic Therapeutic Massage. My motivation in this work is to offer a space of deep rest and relaxation. I believe in the body’s innate capacity to heal itself; sometimes all we need is a safe space to allow ourselves to let go and be at one. On a physiological level, as well as reducing pain due to muscular tension, massage also increases the flow of blood and lymph fluid, which is essential for good health. On a spiritual level, being held in the care of another and letting go into timeless time facilitates a space in which you can listen deeply to yourself and hear the quieter murmurings of your being. I offer a space in which the wisdom of your body and soul can rise up and be known.
The term ‘holistic’ refers to an integrated and intuitive approach, grounded in an anatomical understanding of the body and learnt techniques, whilst being led by deep listening, embodied sensing and intuition. I will work with you to find the right pressure, and can be as light or as deep as you need.
I am really happy to be involved with the Community Therapies Clinic at the Salisbury Centre because I want to live in a world where these therapies are not reserved for those who can afford it, and this initiative moves us in that direction.
I am fully trained with the Edinburgh School of Holistic Therapy, insured with Balens Insurance and registered with the MTI (Massage Training Institute).

My name is Bettina Horvath. I’m a fully qualified and independent Holistic Therapist, with many years of experience in offering my professional, personalised approach. Based within the heart of the beautiful Old Town Edinburgh, where I moved from my homeland of Hungary in 2010, my practice and what I have to offer has been honed, crafted and discovered alongside my own personal healing journey. Introducing Reiki Energy Healing into my life was a huge turning point for me upon settling in this magical land, a shift in where my path lay, and I began to delve deeper into this learning. Five years later, I have fully completed my training to the Reiki Master.
I continued to deepen my journey and find my roots through studying a further three years as a Shamanic Practitioner, helping to connect to the cycles of nature, understanding the importance of moving with the seasons, shifting from inwards to outwards and inwards again, the dance that lies at the heart of any true healing. I learned through my journey that there is no true change without the element of chaos, but that there are always willing hands to guide you through the waves of life, to help move our own innate blocks and resistances, so that our inner waters may flow more freely.
At Salisbury Center I offer a compassionate and guided experience through working 1:1 with clients exploring Reiki Energy Healing & Shamanic way of Healing.
Reiki encourage the whole person including mental, emotional and physical healing, improving the flow and balance of your energy to support healing.
I’m truly delightful to be part of the Salisbury Center Community Therapist to offer monthly free Reiki sessions to people on benefits or a low income, who would like to have treatments but cant afford it.
If this speaks to your heart, please reach out and contact me. I’d love to work with you.

Douglas’ journey as a masseur began while travelling and living in Thailand where he learnt Thai and Ayurvedic massage, first in a secular Buddhist healing centre and then in Australia, covering both Eastern and Western approaches. His journey continued in Edinburgh where he completed a Diploma in Holistic Massage Therapy with the Massage Training Institute, which included Swedish and deep tissue massage.
From the initial consultation Douglas will work with you toward your specific aims, whether stress management or the relief of pain. Swedish massage is excellent for relaxation and as a warmup for deep tissue work on chronically tight or sore muscles. Douglas believes that massage is an essential element of self-care. In his own words, “sharing relaxed and body centred presence is one of life’s greatest gifts.” In his spare time he enjoys nature while hiking, cycling or surfing. His supportive, complementary practices are regular yoga, qi gong, and ongoing training in Non-Violent Communication.

I grew up in the northern Michigan town of Grayling, then attended university at Alma College, where I studied at the University of Aberdeen in an exchange programme and earned my first Bachelors Degree in English Literature.. The following year, I earned my second Bachelor Degree in Sociology from Michigan State University, afterward I remained in Lansing for a number of years. During this time I took courses, earning certificates in Phlebotomy, Nurse Aide certification, and Touch for Health, while exploring the Massage Therapy programme. Through the massage programme, I took a course on herbal therapy which was taught by a traditional Chinese Medical practitioner, and this began my path to TCM and acupuncture. Years of planning followed, leading to a move to Washington State, and eventually California, where I attended Five Branches University in Santa Cruz.
I spent five and a half years at Five Branches, learning all that I could, including a certificate in Five Elements, which is the psycho-emotional branch of acupuncture, a certificate in Sports Medicine, also known as Trauma and Orthopedics. I also spent time in China observing the ways acupuncture is utilized in a variety of hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities. This time in China was invaluable, being able to see how acupuncture is applied at its root in a wide assortment of hospitals and long-term care facilities. Now I find the greatest fulfillment in providing low-cost care for those who seek it, and enjoy the discussions that surround this treatment method that is often shrouded in mystery. It is best if there is little to no mystery in my practice, as we all heal better when we can participate and understand what is happening, so your questions are always welcome.
