Join us to share wintery chants and watery soundscapes, as we explore sounds and songs to nourish us through the darker days.
We will be working with Organic Cacao, looking through the lense of Celtic myth & Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) modalities to give our body and life force the right rest and replenishment it needs at this time.
We will welcome you to a safe and intimate candle-lit evening, in the calm and homely Studio @ the Salisbury Centre
There will be a guided mediation, body movement, voice opening exercises, chants from around the world, organic Guatemalan cacao & a chosen herb, to brew the ideal internal winter broth to boost us through the winter
This is 1 of a 2 part series that will be explored this Autumn.
The following session, which can be attended also as a One-Off, will be on December 10th 2021 (18:30 – 21:00)
———————————————————————-
Musicians and ceremonial facilitators Katie and Francesco will create and hold a space of relaxation, healing and joy through shared songs from around the world.
Kirtan it is a participatory, call and response form of singing/chanting, originally from India. It is becoming increasingly popular throughout western society as people discover the uplifting and healing effects of chanting together (though similar practices are rooted in various cultures and religions globally).
This is an inclusive space where we welcome people of any or no religion/spiritual practice. At a Kirtan event, the lines between musician and audience are blurred: the audience members play a vital role in the music through their singing in response to the “call“ of the artists.
We define our event as “Kirtan-inspired” rather than Kirtan in an attempt to acknowledge the complexity of transnational histories, tensions, and contradictions of cultural appropriation. We will be singing songs in a secular setting that come from a variety of religions and culturally diverse backgrounds and strive to do our own work on decolonising by at least acknowledging how we came to know these songs and this form of sharing music, and what they mean.
Our sharing inckudes songs that span from Sanskrit to Irish, Gaelic and English, with translation and context given.

COST
The price for the evening (with two facilitators and including Cacao) will be on a sliding scale £20 /£25/ £30 (we also offer two bursary spaces, please get in touch to claim on of these if money is an issue)
Sliding scale enables people to come who wouldn’t otherwise be able too; on that note there are two bursary places – if money is an obstacle please get in touch. We would rather you there than not! On the other side when you pay more you are enabling someone else to attend; similarly please do bear in mind we are trying to pay ourselves at least minimum wage to cover costs, shared prep and 3 hour facilitation time, so we can sustain this project
The price will include a small dose of pure ceremonial grade CACAO from Guatemala, home of Cacao, (This will not be a ceremonial dose)
