Upcycling Cafe: Textile series

A four-week online series: learn how to extend the life of your textiles through easy, practical mending and upcycling techniques.

Textile production has a huge environmental impact: it contributes more to climate change than international aviation and shipping combined, is very water intensive, and creates both chemical and plastic pollution. In the UK, around 300,000 tonnes of textile waste is generated every year! We can all play a role by repairing and upcycling our clothes and soft furnishings to prevent waste.

———-

In this online four-week series, Monika from Remode Collective, will teach us how to extend the life of our textiles!

We will discuss the impact of the textile industry on climate change, learn to repair our own clothes or soft furnishings, and create an upcycled cutlery pouch. The course will be a mixed format with a Google Classroom set up for video tutorials and resources, and a weekly live Zoom session. The live Zoom sessions will be on Tuesdays 6-8pm: 27 October, 3, 10, 17 November.

No experience, equipment or special materials are required – all participants will be posted a little pack with everything they need! Ideally, please have max 4 small items of clothing or soft furnishings you’d like to ‘love for longer’ and Monika will work on a plan with you.

The course is free but spots are limited so please register soon (registrations will close on the 19th October to enable enough time for postage). As we will need to post your pack to you, your address will need to be in the UK.
