Self in the systems – exploratory space against oppression

The aim of these sessions is to come together to explore systems of oppression, how oppression surrounds us, affects us and others and how it live through us so that we can learn to transform it. We will look at racism/white supremacy, ableism, sexism, ageism, and other dominant systems including heteronormativity.
We aim for this work to support us to uncover and be in touch with our privileges and oppressed identities so that we can support ourselves and others more marginalised, coming to terms with the systems we are in and to work with and to dismantle them.
These sessions will be exploratory where you will be invited to participate and bring things to explore including shared readings, short videos, role play and other exercises depending on where the group evolves. While together we will practice confidentiality and a consent.
Please note that although there are mainstream narratives around this work these sessions are really about those who attend having a space to learn and grow honestly together, coming into contact with our real experiences and values above a set ideal of what this should be.
Time change for 10th October – 16:30-18:30
We are offering drop-in. We request that you please email and book in advance.
These sessions will take place on the ground floor and will be wheelchair accessible.
We have a disabled access toilets and all our toilets are all gender.
Donations are encouraged if possible for you and will be shared between the facilitators and the markers of the materials used.
Do not let this be a barrier to participation. Nobody will be turned away for lack of funding.
These sessions will be on Monday 18:30-20:30 26th September, 3rd of October, 10th (time change 16:30-18:30) & 24th October and 7th of November.
