The Edinburgh Chan Group is open to anyone who would like to explore the world, teachings and practice of Chinese Chan meditation, Buddhist philosophy and spiritual friendship. Chan is the forefather of Japanese Zen and places a unique emphasis on direct spiritual experience through introspection, quiet sitting and more active forms of meditation and physical practice.. Future events may include day or longer residential retreats, community weekends and more formal practice retreats supported by visiting teachers. We are associated with The Western Chan Fellowship a charity inspired by the work and example of our founder Dr John Crook and his teacher Venerable Chan Master Dr Sheng Yen.
The group will meet each week on Wednesday evenings at the Salisbury Centre from 7 PM to 9 PM. Expect periods of sitting meditation, Qigong, informal talks and lively chat.
There will be a small charge for room rental costs.
