About the Facilitator: Emma (Em) she/her pronouns
Mindfulness: Jon Kabat-Zinn, an early and influential proponent of Mindful practice describes Mindfulness as “paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgementally”

I first learned about Mindfulness in 2009 via my work as a Social Worker specialising in the fields of addiction and violence. Mindfulness gave me and my clients tools for managing anxiety, strong emotion, pain, and insomnia. I was struck by my clients’ positive responses to the techniques in terms of engagement, enjoyment, and behaviour change. I was also excited by the changes in my own life. Mindfulness helped me to manage my own long standing panic disorder as I started my journey towards existing more in the present moment.
I am passionate about offering Mindfulness classes and Mindful Yoga practices because the techniques are highly accessible. Even in the early stages of developing a regular Mindfulness practice, students can experience positive change in their emotional and mental health.

Yoga:
I started practicing yoga in 2014 because years of sitting at a desk, running and cycling had tightened my back, hamstrings and hips to the point where I was unable to touch my toes.
Despite a lack of physical flexibility, I fell in love with yoga finding it both challenging and relaxing. Now I can’t imagine my life without it. Yoga has helped me to manage my mental and physical health through periods of joy, sadness, life changing injury and life-course events.
I passionately believe that there is a yoga practice for every mind and body.
Yoga is about how it makes you feel. It is joyous, uplifting and fun. It is about taking time for yourself and being curious about the journey. I love to plan and facilitate practices that embody these beliefs.

Qualifications and Practice:
In 2019 I was privileged to do my 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training at Sunshine Yoga in Edinburgh.
My current personal practice is grounded in Ashtanga Yoga. I am a student at Meadowlark Yoga with the Mysore Team.
I am currently undertaking a 100 Hour Yin and Restorative Continuing Professional Development course at Meadowlark Yoga.
I offer Mindful Yoga, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Vinyasa Flow, and Introduction to Ashtanga.
