Sign up for a one-hour slot and join in with various activities in the Salisbury Centre garden to celebrate this year’s Autumn Equinox!

About this Event

At the Autumn Equinox, we enter the darker part of the year’s cycle. It’s a time to celebrate this Summer’s harvest, in its many forms, and to decide what to leave behind and what to carry into the the darkness of the coming season! The intentions we set around this time will stay with us throughout the winter and carry us into the Spring. This year, the Equinox itself, when the day is of equal length to the night, takes place on the 22nd of September.

Slowly emerging out of lockdown, the Salisbury Centre team is incredibly excited to be able to invite you to come and gather with us again in our abundant garden and celebrate the Equinox in a small-scale way on Friday the 18th of September. All welcome – whether you’ve been to the Salisbury Centre before or not.

To manage numbers, we’ll be offering five one hour slots with 12 spaces each in the afternoon and evening (between 15:00 and 20:00) that you can book into. There will be different activities in the garden you’re invited to join in with if you like -including walking the Equinox spiral, learning more about seed-saving, and space to share creativity around the fire ! You’re also welcome just to come by and spend some reflective time in our Autumn garden.

You’re very welcome to bring any songs, stories, poems or other creative offerings that fit this time of the year to share at the fire space (or to just come along and listen).

Slots Available:

  • 15:00 – 16:00
  • 16:15- 17:15
  • 17:30 – 18:30
  • 18:45- 19:45

Booking is Required – Book your slot through Eventbrite here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/autumn-equinox-community-celebration-friday-18-sept-tickets-119916729165

  • 17:30-18:30 Living Lighter with Earth Holders

To launch the Living Lighter Project‘s monthly ‘community lab‘ – a space to share, learn and experiment with different approaches to climate action – we’re delighted to welcome the Earth Holders around the fire. The Earth Holders will hold a ceremony to mark the turning of the year, with a nature-centred meditation, poems and a sharing circle for us all to talk about how we are and our intentions for the coming months.

Earth Holders Edinburgh is a community taking mindful direct action for Mother Earth as an integral part of our spiritual life, drawing strength and wisdom from our connection with nature and with the Earth. We are open to members of all faiths as well as those who do not identify with any. We have a regular gathering for spiritual practice on the weekend nearest to the new moon, the dark of the moon being a time for reflection and inner work.

This event is part of the Salisbury Centre community programme and is offered free of charge as we want to make sure it is accessible to anyone. Any donations towards the Salisbury Centre are welcomed, as the Centre’s ability to generate income to meet its running costs has been challenged by the pandemic. There will be donation bowls on the day and you can also donate online on our donations page using the reference AEF (Autumn Equinox Festival): https://www.salisburycentre.org/donate/ Many thanks for your contributions in advance.

Accessibility & Kids

The event will take place in the Salisbury Centre garden, which is two steps down from the main building. We don’t currently have disabled toilets, they’re being put in place later this Autumn.

Accompanied children are very welcome to join in with any of the activities.

Please get in touch with the the Community Development team (Susannah Phillipson and Olga Bloemen) if you have any questions about the event. Community@salisburycentre.org
